Before joining ESCO Germany, Achim worked for 14 years at DNV Oil and Gas and as a freelance engineer on behalf of German approval authorities. There, he played a pivotal role in the third-party verification and certification of significant offshore pipeline projects worldwide, from shallow to ultra-deepwater, ranging from design to installation.

Beyond the technical document review, including independent analyses for complex engineering documentation, he has gained invaluable on-site knowledge through attendance onboard installation vessels, ensuring the reliability and performance of critical components. His on-site expertise also extends to witnessing pre-commissioning operations offshore.

In addition to his certification and verification authority experience, he has also worked on the technical project development and conceptual design of an offshore hydrogen backbone pipeline system in the North Sea at a major German TSO and as project manager for submarine cable installation in two major grid connection projects in the North Sea on behalf of Prysmian Powerlink.

Adam became a Flag state surveyor for the Maritime Coastguard Agency (MCA) of the UK in 2012 and became the Agency’s Principal Yacht Surveyor in 2017. As Head of Large Yachts for the MCA, Adam was responsible for managing a team that ensured yachts on the UK Flag and built to the UK Code met the appropriate standards.

Adam is a Chartered Engineer and Member of the Institute of Marine Engineering. He joined ESCO Consultants in 2022.

Adam has a wide range of experience in planning, engineering and marine warranty services for offshore and onshore oil and gas and renewables projects and operations. These include skidded and trailered load-outs, structures transportation – dry and towed, GBS and jacket installations, topsides loadouts and floatovers,  deep water structures, risers, flowlines and umbilicals, pipelay, DP operations, FPSO and semi-sub construction, tow and mooring, onshore LNG, and decommissioning projects.

Adam has a background in marine and engineering consultancies including heavy lift and transportation firms, naval shipyards and design offices. He now provides leadership and support to personnel providing internal and external clients in shipping including salvage, marine assurance and risk, marine operations and logistics, technical legal matters and transport and offshore engineering.

Adrian specialises in marine assurance for oil majors within the North Sea, conducting OVID and CMID inspections along with other industry standard and company inspection formats. Adrian has undertaken a variety of company and vessel audits, including Master’s assessments while sailing.

Adrian has conducted investigations and reports on behalf of P&I Clubs, shipowners and other clients into collisions and cargo damage within the North Sea region. He has acted as marine warranty surveyor involved in approving lifted and trailered loadout operations, sailaway and installation operations in a number of offshore projects.

He has been actively involved in the Marine Safety Forum Steering Group.  He has attended logistic/rig move and other specialist meetings, together with carrying out management roles abroad, when he undertook the implementation of Marine Operations procedures and incident investigation on chartered vessels, reporting to senior management.

He has served as a site surveyor for many high-profile projects, providing Marine Warranty Services and Marine Consultancy on major oil and gas projects. He has gained extensive experience covering FPSO/FSO conversion and construction, float-on/off, heavy lift, roll-on/off (using SPMTs), skidding (using Strand Jacks), pipe/cable haul, offshore structure installation projects and offshore rigid and flexible flowline installations covering shallow and deep-water.

As a marine surveyor, he is familiar with all types of vessel suitability survey, including tugs, AHTs, supply vessels, material barges, accommodation work barges, DLBs, pipelay barges, DP vessels, MPSV, DSV, DPDSV, general cargo, MOPU and Tender Assists Drilling and is previously experienced as OVID inspector.

He is an accredited member of the Society of Marine Warranty Surveyors (SOMWS) for MODU rig moves and offshore construction projects having undertaken MWS projects involving towage approvals,  float-overs, trailered load out, pipelay, heavy lifting and jacket installation. He is also an accredited OVID Inspector, has undertaken CMID inspections, is accredited with Flag States for annual flag inspections, has been involved with H&M Insurance Claims, P&I Club surveys and DP vessel assurance / trials.
